3.1 AC coupling solution

AC Coupling solution is used for projects that already have a Solar system (or other energy sources like wind power, generators…) with a large output capacity. The Solar and BESS systems are interconnected on the AC side. The BESS system is independent of the Solar system, making it easy to expand either the BESS or Solar if needed in the future.

3.2 DC coupling solution

DC Coupling solution is used for new installations or products with support. The Solar and BESS systems are connected on the DC side. The Solar and BESS systems share a Power Conversion System (PCS), suitable for projects requiring a high DC/AC ratio.

4.1 Self-Consumption of renewable energy

  • It is an economic model where the system uses PV for its own electricity needs, acting as both a producer and consumer.
  • During the day, when the PV output exceeds the load, resulting in excess electricity, the BESS charges the storage battery. If there is surplus PV energy, it can be fed into the grid or limit PV.
  • At night or during cloudy weather, when the solar output is less than the load, leading to insufficient supply for consumption, the BESS provides energy to the load. When the State of Charge (SOC) reaches a lower limit, the grid supplies energy to the load.

4.2 Peak Load Shifting

  • It is the process of reducing power demand during peak hours, known as “peak shaving” or “smoothing peaks.” The purpose is to minimize the power generation requirements by adjusting the load flow. If the loads themselves cannot be adjusted, this must be done by deploying Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to modify load characteristics.
  • When grid power is less than the valley value, BESS is charged while the electrical system is supplying minimal energy to the load and electricity prices are low, typically at night. 4.3 Micro-grid

  • A micro-grid is a closed power grid that utilizes renewable energy, energy storage through batteries, and power generators to produce electricity. 4.5 Back-up

  • Backup application is suitable for systems with high requirements for energy security.
