Lighting up rural traffic with solar energy
Building new rural areas according to the Government’s direction
On February 22, 2022, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 263/QD-TTg approving the National Target Program for Building New Rural Areas. The program aims to develop infrastructure, gradually improve the quality of life for modern citizens, ensure an environment, and create a bright, green, clean, beautiful, and safe rural landscape that adapts to climate change and sustainable development.
Currently, many provinces (Dak Lak, Bac Giang, Vung Tau, Soc Trang, Quang Nam, Hanoi, etc.) are actively implementing programs to illuminate rural traffic with solar lights because rural roads often lack sufficient lighting, making nighttime travel inconvenient.
Why are solar lights preferred, especially in rural areas?
No need for electricity wires – High safety and aesthetics
No monthly electricity costs
Automatic on/off lights Lights turn on automatically in the dark and off when it’s bright |
|
Durable lifespan Battery storage lasts up to 8 years, lights for over 12 years, and solar panels for over 25 years |
|
100% solar energy use No CO2 emissions – Environmental protection |
|
Improving the quality of life Reducing social issues – Convenient and safe transportation |
How have localities implemented this?
Let’s review some successful projects that many provinces across the country have undertaken and received positive responses from local authorities, philanthropists, and residents.
In July 2021, in Hoa Dong Commune, Krong Pak District, Dak Lak Province, 23 solar lights were installed on a 2km road. The 6m high lamp posts, spaced 25m apart, were designed with the sponsorship of the local government, military units, and residents in the village. After installation, the road became well-lit, traffic became more convenient, there was no need to pay monthly electricity bills, and the one-time installation has resulted in long-term use, garnering enthusiastic support from the local residents.
From September 2020 to May 2021, Hoa Hoi Commune, Xuyen Moc District, Vung Tau, enthusiastically received support from the local community, government authorities, and especially over 90 members of the Humanitarian Volunteer Fund (Xuyen Moc District). They successfully installed 717 solar lights in 13 communes. The project, upon implementation, alleviated the fear of nighttime travel for young students, reduced social issues, and enhanced organized security.
In August 2022, DAT Group, a Joint Stock Company, organized a ceremony for the inauguration and handover of a project consisting of 51 solar streetlights from Sokoyo along a 1.8km road leading to Hamlets 1 and 2 in Bong Lai, Hiep Thanh Commune, Duc Trong District, Lam Dong Province. The project included 10 SOLO 15W lights, 40 TECO 20W lights, and 01 CONCO 80W light. After the installation of solar lights along the village road, residents experienced significantly improved convenience in their daily travel compared to before.
